The Child and Adolescent inpatient Psychiatric Service is a specialized level of care designed to meet the needs of children and adolescents, 4 to 20 years of age, with psychiatric disorders.
While providing them the most appropriate pharmacological treatment, our clinic faces a very important challenge trying to provide this patients facilitiesto improve health and well-being through leisure-based activity, which will help them to improve their functioning after leaving the hospital.
This part of their treatment will be part of the new Recreative therapeutic areas within our clinic. This areas will provide different services such as:

1- Cinema for Children and Adolescents
2- Painting and handmade atelier “Do it yourself”- with recycled materials
3- The library for Children and Adolescents
4- The cooking atelier and festive area
5- Therapeutic and esthetic remodeling of the hallways, common areas and the yards around the clinic

1- Cinema for Children and Adolescents

Most children and adolescents often find it difficult to eloquently express such feelings. By referencing movie characters and familiar dramatic vignettes, a young patient may reveal his/her own internal process while having the opportunity to keep a necessary emotional distance from stressful or frightening topics. Movies present young clients with best and worst case scenarios and show different characters getting in and out of various problems and circumstances. Seeing how an individual in a movie handles a situation gives viewers ideas of how to deal with a problem in their own lives. Movie heroes and heroines can make mistakes or fall victim of unfortunate circumstances. Antagonists, enemies, and villains usually offer cautionary examples of how not to behave. They can help children and adolescents to learn “by proxy” how not to do something, because they see the negative consequences of a character’s action.
In our clinic we need an area where this children and adolescents can watch in quite the movies. The movies, included in the Movie Library created by us, will be selected based on the patients problems, difficulties and age.

2- Painting handmade atelier “Do it yourself”- with recycled materials
A mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. A goal in art therapy is to improve or restore a client’s functioning and his or her sense of personal well-being.

The 3 basic steps art therapy seeks to take us through are:
a. Identify and recognize our emotions & conflicts.
b. Observe them in safe and creative environments.
c. Accept, process and resolve the stress.
Providing an area where the patients of our clinic can express their feelings through art, in particular painting and also they can make their “Own piece of art” with recycling materials such as: plastics, ornaments, old clothes, bottles, paper, owl ecc.

3- The library for Children and Adolescents

It takes all sorts of things to help children and adolescents in trouble- reading therapy is one of them. We need to create our own library in the clinic, in order to provide books to this children so that they can read them and this will help them not only to pass a qualitative time but also depending on their problem it might help them to face their difficulties.

4- The Kitchen atelier and festive area

Now culinary therapy is the treatment du jour at a growing number of mental health clinics and therapists’ offices. While this might be very helpful in adults, it can be turned in lots of fun and entertament for children and adolescent where they can cooperate, ccok together, non beingdevided focused on their reason of admission. Also at the end the best part will be enjoying their delicious foods, which probably be tastier than the hospital dishes. At this area it may be possible to arrange some partys in case of children’ s birthdays or other occasions.

5- Therapeutic and esthetic remodeling of the hallways, common areas and the yards around the clinic

Another activity in which the children and adolescents will get engaged is the redecoration of the hallways and other areas of the clinic to make them more colorful, warming and as welcoming as it possible.
