Our story

On June 01, 2017, the first campaign was launched that started as an awareness raising campaign to raise money for children affected by blood diseases who are hospitalized and treated at the Pediatric Onchematology Service at TUHC. It all started under the idea, conception and curation of Albana Osmani.

On June 1, 2017, in the oncathology ward of the QSUT, the hospital equipment was placed in a public form and the immediate needs of the children affected by blood diseases, cancer and leukemia were met. The viral humanitarian campaign involved thousands of Albanians around the world wearing sunflowers, posting pictures on social media everywhere with the hashtag #youareasunflower, expressing their solidarity with child support. So we all got along. Mission successfully completed!

From the day of its public presentation on Top Channel Television in Albania, as a charity project, the first sunflower t-shirt product was presented to the public as a form of contribution, and sold in record time for 7 weeks and 4 days . There were 3,000 people wearing T-shirts sharing their photos on their social networks and sensitizing everyone around them. The hashtag #youareasunflower went viral. Everywhere Albanians lived, and not only, as a powerful message in helping and supporting children. It was just extraordinary !! The biggest joy was in the kids and their families who were following every post. They felt that all hearts were gathered together and a miracle was happening!

After the conclusion of the first humanitarian campaign, the work was not much left. We started the paperwork to be established as a Foundation and immediately in August the project that awakened sunny Tirana dedicated to children began. The sunflower on the streets of the capital now would be the project with the support of the Tirana municipality, which will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

With the recognition and support of the Government of Kosovo and Mr. Ramush Haradinaj, the humanitarian campaign called 'Dardani, you are wearing sunscreen', began vigorously and was successfully concluded months later, meeting all the needs of the oncology ward in UCCK, Prishtina , Kosovo. 3,000 ambassadors dressed humanely in support of Kosovo's little ones. Our Ambassadors, Mrs. Anita Muçaj Haradinaj and the former legendary captain of the Albanian National Team, Mr. Lorik Cana supported the accomplished mission.

To those who needed more than anyone lacking in love from their parents, we decided, together with Vodafone, at the end of 2017, to launch a humanitarian 'Care & Share' humanitarian campaign where hundreds of children would donate a warm embrace giving you the teddy bear with the sunflower blouse where the Vodafone company logo would be animated for the first time, with the tagline 'Të kam xhan'.

In January 2018, You are a Sunflower Foundation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ms. Besiana Kadare, Albania's Permanent Representative to the United Nations held meetings with international organizations such as UNICEF, UNDP, UNDPNGO where she had the opportunity to present her vision and work done over a year. On January 7, 2018, we launched the 'Wish of a Child' project, where children and parents assisted in writing their wishes where they were closely related to their family problems. Over the past two years, the wishes of all children who have been hospitalized in the pavilions of Albania and Kosovo have been fulfilled. This is thanks to the generosity and love of hundreds of people who have fulfilled their desires. A child's fulfilled desire is a great joy that we share with you all with gratitude every day. On May 24, 2018, the You are a Sunflower Foundation would be officially registered in the USA as YOU ARE A SUNFLOWER FOUNDATION INC. The realization of this process in every legal registration document was closely followed by board member Evi Kokalari, who personally and financially supported the process. Officially launched in the US our associates in their overwhelming responsibility are Shadije Kodza and Lori Dilo.

In June 2018, with the strong recognition and support of the highest state institution, the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, led by renowned Albanian Mr. Talat Xhaferi, the humanitarian campaign dedicated to the children of this country had a great impact on all and closed in record time meeting all the needs of Mother Teresa Hospital in Skopje, Macedonia, at the oncology ward, where children from Macedonia and the region were hospitalized and treated.

One of the most innovative projects involving thousands of people globally, was presented live on September 20, 2018 on social media and in December of this year, in an even wider public dimension, and continues to be one of our active projects where everyone can download the game for a small sum of money in support of the Kukes Regional Hospital. For those living within the Republic of Albania, we accessed the most practical by sending an SMS.

We have knocked on the fourth state bringing the sunflower to the aid of the children there. Currently, sunflower blouses are being sold to cover the immediate needs of children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the recognition and support of the Mayor of Sarajevo, Mr. Abdulah Skaka, we are moving forward this humanitarian mission with love for every child everywhere.
